Three Simple Steps for Women to Build Self-Confidence and Improve Their Income

Three Simple Steps for Women to Build Self-Confidence
and Improve Their Income

Women Do Not Receive Equality at Work:

Women make far less income than men having the same level of education and experience in the same professional field A survey done by Harvard Summer School shows that on average in 2010, women only made 77 cents to every dollar a man made.   According to the Atlantic article published on April 14, 2014, many field studies show that women have less self-confidence than men; less likely to ask for a raise; rate themselves more negatively than men; more likely to turn down opportunities.

When I received a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering and landed one of top paying salary positions as a beginning chemical engineer at a Manhattan engineering design firm, I was young and fearless.  It did not cross my mind to have children and raise a family.  In my special situation, the company was looking for someone with Japanese Language skills.  I did offer this added value.  As a new graduate, I was on top of the world.

Women Face One Big Challenge as a Group:

For years I have been a serious student of personal development and spirituality, and grew as a person and gained professionally.  In spite of my experience at workplace, having children and going through a divorce, I was keenly aware that my professional confidence declined over the years whenever I was employed in a 9 to 5 job situation.

One of the greatest challenges experienced by working women is how to manage between their jobs and raising their children.  Although many men began to step in to help, women are still largely responsible.  For many decades feminists have sung to advocate stay-home-moms: “Every Mother is a working woman.”  The reality in this tough worldwide economy is that only a small percentage of our population can afford to have one income earner in the family.    A majority of the children are raised by single mothers; the sole incomer earner in a majority of households is the single mother.
