New Meaning of Serenity: the Way of Personal and Business Life

Day #3- Positive and Negative Impulses

A Big Tool Box of Serenity:

This is our Day #3 of redefining a meaning of serenity.  It is really important to understand that we have the ability and power to create serenity.  We don’t have to wait passively till we somehow get into a state of peace and calmness.  We are building a big tool box of serenity to store many tools to unleash the power of serenity in life. The big tool box of serenity we can carry around with us.

Today we are continuing to work from the Serenity page (page 360) in “Hope for Today.”

Today’s selection is “Serenity is the space between the impulse and action.”

There are Two Kinds of Impulses:

A bit confusing when we talk about impulses.  There are positive ones as well as negative ones.

“Great things are not done by impulse, but by a series of small things brought together.”
~~George Eliot~~

(1) The impulse that rashes out of a perpetually negative thinking:

The one in “Hope for Today” refers to a negative impulse.  Many people are conditioned and programmed because they learned from society, their parents, teachers and peers based on their negative experiences.

  • So you think things that are happening are negative.
  • So your reaction to the situation is ill- mannered, emotional and random behavior totally not strategic.
  • Impatient, trying to settle once and for all..
  • Presumptuous, assuming it’s always the same bad thing…

If you have been dealing with the same old negative situation, most likely your mind is set only to experience things in negative and harsh ways.
“Here it comes again!”
“I can’t stand this.”
These are the thoughts that run in your mind.
Whether things are really happening to you or not,
you react by saying negative and harsh things or doing thing against these things immediately without considering how your words or actions affect your situation.
Most likely you just want to strike back or rash out.
And  try to STOP what’s running in your mind.

These types of interactions occur very frequently between spouses; boy-friends and girl-friends, parents and children.

  • Most of the time you may just want to make you point.
  • Win an argument.
  • Make others feel bad or put them down.
  • You want to win.

You want to correct the SITUATION.

Serenity then puts the space between “this negative impulse” and action to be take or words spoken.

When there is this space of serenity created, many arguments, fights and crisis can be avoided.

(2) The impulse that flows from the Infinite Intelligence and creative imagination:

“One can never consent to creep when one feels an impulse to soar.”
~~Helen Keller~~

When your mind is clear and not clouded by   confusion, pain, resentment, skepticism, then you can receive this intuition, urging you into action.  This is a welcome impulse.
An intuition getting stronger fueled with passion…

A creative and positive and unstoppable impulse!

Serenity Is Nature’s Way of Balancing Life:

“Nature, who for the perfect maintenance of the laws of her general equilibrium, has sometimes need of vices and sometimes of virtues, inspires now this impulse, now that one, in accordance with what she requires.”
~~Marquis de Sade~~

As you gain your tools of serenity, you will be able to respond to your life more appropriately.

Give it a try and practice…
Create the space between the impulse and action.

Interestingly, when it comes to business  or financial decisions, people are struck by fear, experiences of past failures, lack of self confidence and do not follow on the creative side of the impulses.

Take action when necessary.  Many of my friends ended up rewriting wonderful life stories because they followed on their gut instinct and “impulses” in the most positive way.  Watch this Free presentation >>
