How to Write a Blog:
10 Tips for the Right Mindset

“How to write a blog”  is our topic today.  And continuing from the last few posts, I will teach about 10 tips for the right mindset needed to write a blog.

I am at Carnegie Lake in Princeton, NJ.  This is a man-made lake.
Right next to it runs a canal that was dug up by thousands of Irish immigrants.
Some grave history in the past.  And it is very beautiful and peaceful here today.

10 tips for the right mindset required to write a great blog:

1]   Openenss and Willingness.

You need to be open and willing to write a blog.  Everything has changed.  The  mode of  communication and  of marketing  all have changed so much.  If you are still hesitant and skeptical…

If you just want to rely on the Yellow Pages, paid ads, flyers and telephone calls …

Then, blogging isn’t for you.
Even just having a website alone to establish your online presence is not adequate for today’s marketing needs.

First find out where your MIND is at.  Are you open and willing to take in and adapt something that is 10 years old (getting so popular in the last decade)?

2] Knowing your ‘why’ writing a blog:
Why are you doing this?   Is this for a personal use only?  Or is this for public?   Really think about your ‘why.’
Personal:

If you are doing your personal satisfaction, this is all fine.
But let it not be a personal journal type, “Dear Diary” type.

Every day, mundane one for example.  ‘I woke up.  Brushed my teeth.  I was depressed.  My life is nothing unusual and just boring.  Lots of issues with the kids.’    No one is interested in your daily boring life and problems.  Let’s not get ego-centric or narcissistic.

A big emotional drama at home front or at work.  ‘I discovered my spouse has been cheating on me.’
While you may be attracting traffic to your online site, what is your motivation and why are you exposing your most private life to the unknown public? {Perhaps this is beyond the scope of this blog, to discuss pros and cons of this type of a blog.}
Can you write about something that you have to go deep into your mind and heart?  So your readers can resonate with your experience?

3]  Business:

Are you using a blog to promote your business?
If you are promoting your business.  Blogging is where you start.   After all major businesses are using blogs and small businesses are beginning to tap into the power of blogging.

4] Know yourself.

Whatever you do, if you want to be successful, you start with YOURSELF.
Why are you trying to blog?  What are you good at?  What are you really interested in?
Is it spirituality?  Physical fitness.   Cooking.  Travel to different places.  Relationships.
Consider all your possible choices.  What is your purpose?  What do you want to talk about?

5]  Focus an d Concentrate:
After you pick your niche or a category, begin to narrow down.  Nowadays everyone is suffering from ADD.  There are so many choices, you are multi-talented and multi-dimensional.   While you may say, ‘I don’t know what to write about,’  you probably are ready to jump into everything that you want to write about in your head.   You want to put your hands in everything.   That is not what a blog is for.
These multi tasking blog site won’t work well unless you have separate blog sites and different user names.   Or pen names.   At first stick with one major category or niche and find out about what you really want to write about.  On central theme for one blog post.

6] Your Target Market:
Whom are you targeting?  Women at home?  Y Generation who are killing it now, after getting out of college.  Some doing really well.  Lots of successful Internet entrepreneurs.  Lots of struggling Y generation people, too, who don’t know what to do.  X Generation who thought they were cool but now getting older.  The Baby Boomers once thought were innovative and golden.  Now many of them have been crushed in the Stock Market Crash and Banking Fiasco of 2007.  The economy turned south.  Their pension funds and savings were wiped out.
Who do you want to target?

7]  What are your people’s problems?

Your readers will post comments.  You may send out a survey.  You must listen and tune in.   You research from trade publications to see what people are going through.  You can certainly draw many commonalities you share with your target market.  You must address their problems and needs.

8]  Do you have a solution to your subscribers?
You are going to write about a solution to their problems.
You are going to dig into their issues.  Research and listen.  These make up the content of your blog.

9]  Monetize
Up until now you are working hard to come up with and offered solutions in your blog.  Now you need to think of the important stage.  How to make money from your time, effort and passion.

When your subscribers are not reading your blog,  think of what they will need?  When they want to explore solutions for themselves, what products and even webinars can I offer. Are you just interested in writing a blog?  Or are you interested in monetizing?

10]    Love it. Have passion:
We have covered 9 important themes that make up the right  mindset for writing a blog.

The most important thing is ‘Do you love communicating using blogs?’  Are you passionate about what you write?  Are you willing to learn more about this topic?

No one starts out to be an expert.  In writing blogs, you will become an expert.   It won’t happen overnight.  You will have to persistent and consistent.  Blog daily.  If this is difficult, blog at least 5 times a week.

I use a blog site that is known as the Viral Bogging System.  We have a community of like-minded people sharing ideas.   For many they consider blogging is the foundation of their Internet Marketing business.
