Do you want people to Listen to You?
A sudden outburst or a shout-out;
“Hey pay attention and listen to me.”
Does that always bring back bad memories?
You don’t want to listen and want to resist when someone talks to you like that…
One of the most important ingredients for your success in your personal and business life…
to have a good rapport with people you work with…
That is: To Learn To Listen…
{Not to demand that people listen to you.}
Listening isn’t just about listening to the words spoken
and being able to repeat verbatim.
How do you find out if you or someone else is really listening or not?
It shows up how you implement what you’ve heard.
Implement in your daily life and in your business.
A Typical Learning Style:
- If you are listening to a lecture,
- if you are open minded,
- and if you want to learn,
- it is easier to listen, isn’t it?
That’s what you think.
You don’t interrupt with many questions?
- Have you interrupted with many questions when someone is coaching or mentoring you?
- You take notes; you digest what’s been taught.
- You internalize it.
- You begin to use what you think you heard.
It always has to be adjusted because no one ever goes form a starting point to a destination in a straight line.
It always deviates from the main course; you begin to put your own ideas (it could be good or bad)
as you go along, you’d always have to adjust to get to the main course.
So it’s never one time on a spot, that you are going to listen and do that.
The most important thing is:
Listening is about non-judgment.
Listening is about letting go of your own ego.
Right or wrong
black or white thinking…
and you become humble enough
to learn and attempt a new way…
It happens all the time…
The first time I heard about the importance of “learning to listen well”
was about a role of a change agent in a graduate course I was taking at Columbia University.
I was learning about the skills an administrator and a consultant need in school systems or district.
A change agent… consultant would go into a schools or a businesses, and try to change the organization… because as professionals they know it all.
With this attitude, the first thing that they were met with was a strong resistance from the people.
Why Not?
Nobody wants to listen to you.
Nobody is interested in what you have to say.
- Because you ignore what the organization is
- You ignore the culture of the place…
- And who the people are…
This situation applies to a business marketing , too, doesn’t it?
- You can’t just bombard your prospect with what you want to sell.
- What you want t to say…
- Why, it is the greatest product you want to sell.
You see posting like these all over in Facebook and other social media all the time nowadays.
Entrepreneurs are literally TELLING people to look at; read about or hear the name of their company and the product’s benefits most of the time and with such a superior attitude.
What are your prospects’ problems and needs as they see… not as you judge and think according to your opinions of their life situations?
On the other hand, we must learn to listen and learn about great resources and opportunities with an open mind.
What are the 5 new ways of listening so that you will be successful in your personal and business life?
[1] Stop forcing your ideas and ways on others.
[2] Stop dominating conversations.
[3] Be open minded without judging and find out what problems your targeted audience have. Provide solutions.
[4] Find out what you need to improve for yourself daily.
[5] Have a mentor and follow successful people you respect.
Results you have in your personal and business life speaks loud if you are a good listener or not.
