Using Serenity Prayer to Lift Your Spirit and Improve Your Life

Using the Serenity Prayer
to Lift Your Spirit and Improve Your Life

The Serenity Prayer as commonly known is an abridged version adapted by
Alcoholic Anonymous and other Twelve-Step Programs.

God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.

The Serenity Prayer is for those who seek happiness and can bring about wonderful changes in their lives.  Reciting this prayer is powerful.  Combined with music, it is even more magical.

When you apply the teaching of this prayer mindfully, you will be able to change your life more effectively.   You will learn how to use the Serenity Prayer as Three Steps to Lift Your Spirit and Improve Your Life.

A prayer is a powerful dialogue between you and your God. You are praying to God and not for God to appear in your life to take care of everything.

Millions of people around the world say  the Serenity Prayer daily in hope to recover from their own addiction or their family members’ addiction.
In the hope to maintain sobriety and to be restored to sanity.

Although many people dismiss or minimize this prayer because they feel their lives have nothing to do with alcoholism or drug addiction…

Everyone can benefit from saying this prayer:

  • Are there things you are dissatisfied with?
  • Are you worried about your future?
  • Do you wish that life should give you much more?

Three Steps to Lift Your Spirit and Improve Your Life:

1]   Use it like a personal development exercise:
You are granted to use your wisdom to distinguish what you
cannot change and what you can change.  Make a list of what you
cannot change in one column.
Then in the second, what you can  and would like to change.

2]  Spiritual Step: Letting go does not work well by just relying on the logical mind.  Often people get more  fixated on the things they are so unhappy and worried about.  A spiritual tool is needed by asking God to remove your obsessive thoughts, pain and injury done to you.

You cannot change what happened in the past.  You cannot change other people’s actions. Say the prayer over and over again.  From being desperate, you will gradually experience acceptance and peace.

3]  Action Plan:  Pray for the courage to change.  Research what is available to you.  What is possible for you to do?

Make plans to change your situation one day at a time.

The original Serenity Prayer written by the American theologian

by Reinhold Niebuhr in 1950:

God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.

Living one day at a time;
Enjoying one moment at a time;
Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace;
Taking, as He did, this sinful world
as it is, not as I would have it;
Trusting that He will make all things right
if I surrender to His Will;
That I may be reasonably happy in this life
and supremely happy with Him
Forever in the next.
Amen.
