How to Gain Self-Confidence
and Income Goals as a New Online Entreprenuer
We will continue with an episode of ‘How to gain self-confidence’ from Napoleon Hill’s Self-Confidence Formula in Think and Grow Rich.’ I have already talked about the prerequisite, Step 1 of How to gain self-confidence.
And this section will focus on Step 2 and it will be very relevant to people who are getting into network marketing or online marketing.
The book was first published in 1937 which is 77 years ago and Hill is considered to be the grandfather of personal development and, Success Principles.
Self-Confidence Formula [Second Step]:
“I realize that the dominating thoughts of my mind will eventually
reproduce themselves in outward, physical action, and gradually
transform themselves into physical reality; therefore,
I will concentrate my thoughts for 30 minutes daily
upon the task of thinking of the person I intend to become,
thereby creating in my mind a clear mental picture of that person.”
What are the dominating thoughts? Let’s look at the current state of your mind and thoughts. You probably are focused on gaining self-confidence because you are most likely on a shaky ground. Is that not true? So your current dominating thoughts may not be most positive and wonderful.
You are about to work on creating your goals and the person you are becoming.
At the moment you will be working on the positive image of who you want to become. Napoleon Hill’s guidelines are time proven success for long term purposes and goals. For a short term goal, we need to look at your own particular set of need and goals more closely. Looking at more practical matters. Most likely, the people are in situations they would like to change and get out of.
There are three different stages of mind-sets:
[1] Stage One: To Have
We are so conditioned and even trained to look at the material possessions. What we have and what we don’t have. This is ‘to have’ stage. Well, we realize we don’t have enough money; we don’t have a good job; our car is breaking down so we don’t have a great operating car. Maybe your house is in need of repairs so you don’t have a nice house. It’s always about having and not having.
That’s how we measure our success… by ‘having’ and ‘not having’
And our self-confidence in the same way… by ‘having’ and ‘not having.’
[2] Stage Two: To Do – About Doing
You have to work hard. You have to exercise so much. You have to clean the house. You have to go out and meet your clients. You have to make lots of phone calls and make appointments. In order for me to be happy, I have to do this and that. I have to please my spouse. I have to take care of all the chores before I can relax.
[3] Stage Three: To Be – About Being
Rarely do we ever come to the third most important gauge of ‘being’ stage. To be who we are. Our own being. I am a spiritual being. I am endowed with the magnificent energy of the Universe. I am always feeling peaceful, calm and relaxed.
That is the state of being. We usually don’t measure our success or self-confidence level based on our BEING.
So our dominating thoughts are always what we don’t have, the problems and challenges we face.
How to turn around the negative to positive thoughts:
- Turn around Your current Dominating Thoughts
- And import great, practical goals to your mind.
- When you begin to focus and concentrate on yout thoughts, start with 5 minutes to 10 minutes at a time.
(If you do have 30 minutes, then put yourself a quite place and go for it!)
- Catch yourself when you are feeling negative. You know those thoughts, “I’ve got so many problems, I have to take care of this and that.” Catch yourself in these negative thoughts.
- Practice being peaceful, relaxed and positive.
So how do you do this?
You see in my office right behind me, I have a Yoga mat and an exercise ball.
I just get up every now and then and stretch on my Yoga mat and bounce around on the ball.
- Just 5 minutes here and then. Move around. Stretch, twist, yawn, rotate your head, etc.
It’s not like taking a proper Yoga class. I am not saying you need an hour of Yoga class. Just take a little time. It’s just moving your body around. Wiggle around, raise your arms and legs and mover your head around and release your stress.
- Breathe deep.
- And always mindful releasing those negative feelings.
- Remove stress out of your body and mind.
Focus on your immediate goal:
If you are like me, if you are like many people who are seeking to turn around your situation fast,
next 30 day goal,
next 60 day goal
or next 90 day goal.
These goals are usually related to financial or health matters.
Online or Network marketing goals for a beginner:
Let’s take a look at online marketing or network marketing goals. These are where many people are seeking financial opportunities.
No resumes! No job interviews!
You are looking to earn $3000, $5000, $10,000 or even $15,000 a month.
At this point, your dominating thought is NOT “I’ve got to do it,” or “I’ve got to have it.” … In other words, stress and pressure.
Here is the secret!
[1] You see yourself already having achieved and you are in possession of that OBJECT OF YOUR DEFINITE PURPOSE.
(This is just a short term goal for you. Once you have achieved your goal, you will realign yourself to a higher purpose. )
When you have turned around your life by achieving these short term goals,
your mind will move to longer term goals and your vision will get bigger.
If you do have 30 minutes to devote to focusing and concentrating on your goals, then spend the time.
[2] Write down the following 3 sentences on an index card.
[3] Read them to yourself silently and aloud.
[4] Visualize yourself, your emotions and your senses, having these things and going all those and being.
[5] Do this at least once when you wake up and before you go to bed. Do this whenever possible.
The Magic of Creating Goal Cards:
In the present tense: Put the Target Date
[1] TO HAVE
I am so happy and grateful now that (have & have gained or in possession of) _______________________.
I am so happy and grateful now that ( I am doing, I do) ________________________.[3] TO BE
(describe how you are feeling and being)
Hill says to ‘create a clear mental picture of that person.’
This is all about you.
Visualize where you are, whom you are with, all the surrounding place, objects, sites an sound, all the sensations you are experiencing.
