Courage Is Bigger Than you!

Courage Is Bigger Than you!

What is courage?  Successful people know about courage.   This blog article  examines  courage quotes by famous persons of great achievements. It begins with  the words of the grandfather of personal development and Laws of Success.

Napolen Hill

The Laws that govern success are available to anyone who has the faith and courage.  DEFINITENESS OF DECISION always requires courage, some times very great courage.
Napoleon Hill (Oct. 26, 1883 – Nov.8, 1970)

Only those who will risk going too far can possibly find out how far they can go.
T.S. Eliot (Sept. 26, 1888 – Jan. 4 1965)

Those go far and know that they go beyond the average and expected are trained, nurtured and encouraged.  They may have to travel alone in the final mile of the race.  But they have a coach, mentor or teacher.   They are also aware that they are making a history.   They have a network of supporters and spectators.  Those who risk going too far are alone, but without being by themselves.  If you don’t know where to head, you can get help from a mentor, coach or a team of like-minded people.

One of the most renowned Global Renaissance women of our times said:

Courage is the most important of all the virtues because without courage, you can’t practice any other virtue consistently.  You can practice any virtue erratically, but nothing consistently without courage.
Maya Angelou (April 4, 1924 – May 28, 2014)

Dr. Angelou expressed a sense of honor in interactions with people.  In this quote courage is not about yourself, for yourself and by yourself.  It is all about acknowledgement of the people around you and acknowledgement of yourself relating to other people.

She  also said:

Without courage we can’t be kind, true, merciful, generous, or honest.”  She sees courage as a means to acknowledge other people’s existence.

Let’s change the tune and listen to the Cowboy Movie Icon’s words:

Courage is being scared to death and saddling up anyway.
John Wayne  (May 26, 1907 – June 11, 1979)

Cowboys know how to ride a horse.  In the old American Western life, riding on the horse back was a primary means of transportation.  Cowboys don’t hesitate to jump on a horse.  Not for most of us, though.  In order for us to get ready and go somewhere, we need to have some type of skill sets to get going.  It may be riding a bike, driving a car physically.  It may be coming up a basic sketchy plan and follow one step at a time.

It may mean  just move one step ahead at a time to go through one more day.  When we are scared, saddling up is that courage which allows us to tap into our own resources such as skill sets and knowledge.

Now, words from a charismatic Christian author and speaker:

Courage is fear that has said its prayer and decided to go forward anyway.
Joyce Meyer (June 4, 1943 –   )

Fear is an emotion that stops people from going forward.   Fear is one of the worst enemy that get people stuck where they are.   By becoming aware of your fear and saying prayers to step aside your fear or working around it by asking help from a power beyond you, energy of courage emerges.

Courage is not just about your will power.  You will begin to see yourself and your situation in a different light. You say prayers.  You may work with a teacher to guide you along.   Courage is not just about mustering up some forces inside of yourself and persevering regardless of all obstacles and danger.

One of the most popular prayers today is the Serenity Prayer:

God grant me the serenity
to Accept the things I cannot change.
The courage to change the things I can.
And the wisdom to know the difference.
