Japanese Fortune Cat; I have a 21 Year Old Maneki Neko

Do Cats Attract Money, Good Luck and Fortune?

What is Maneki-Neko?

The Japanese Maneki-Neko, beckoning cat, is a symbolic cat figurine which brings prosperity and protection to its owner.  I am convinced that my cat, Ms. Lothara who is almost  21 years old is a Maneki Neko.
She brings fortune into our family life.

Let’s first find out what a Japanese fortune cat, Maneki Neko is!  Enjoy this Animal Planet’s YouTube Video taken in Japan.

The golden cat invites specially wealth and prosperity. When the left paw is raised, the fortune cat brings customers to the business.  This means more money.   This Maneki Neko is holding a gold coin of 10 million ryo.  Ryo is a gold currency unit used during the Shogun Period (Edo) in pre-Meiji Era in Japan.   That was a large sum!

Everywhere in Japan you see all prosperity inviting cats in people’s homes, restaurants, stores and corporate offices … not to mention at spiritual shrines.  Maneki-neko is the Japanese people’s mascot.  As seen on the video, these are statuettes made of porcelain in different colors and all sizes.

Maneki-Neko isn’t just a figment of one’s imagination or someone’s crazy idea.  It is the legend and a big money generating business. Throughout history, there have been so many testimonials of how the beckoning cat owners became rich; survived a misfortune or recovered from illness.

Does the Beckoning Cat have Power?

Ancient Egyptians believed that cats possessed supernatural and psychic powers.

In both Eastern and Western cultures, it is thought that cats have many lives.  So it is not surprising that Hello Kitty, a cute female bobtail cat appeared in 1974 in the Japanese market place and by 1976 Hello Kitty dolls and many related items were exported to America.  At first the target market was pre-adolescent girls.  In a short period of time, older school girls embraced these cute kitties and spread to young women.

Sanrio Corporation has made an annual global sale of over $5 billion by 2010.  Do you suppose Hello Kitty is a modern form of Maneki-Neko?

Do You Appreciate Your Cats?

At our home front, Miss Lothara is a 20+ year old female cat, very fit and healthy.  She has never been sick once.  Her mother, Pumpkin, was a mackerel tabby. On one hot summer night, she gave birth to three kittens of completely different coloring. Miss Lothara is an orange tabby… similar to golden color.

Miss Lothara, I am convinced, is a living Maneki-Neko.  Every week from Monday to Friday, before the stock market opens at 9:30 AM here in the East Coast, she jumps up on my desk and watches some of the select futures indices like /ES, /YM, /NQ, /TF and /YG charts with me. She really loves to sit by the computer and helps me select which stock option trades I should execute.

Regardless of technical analysis, consistent trading plans or the overall market awareness by the experts, things happen unexpectedly and the trades one makes can turn out to be a great profit or turn out to lose.  I am convinced that my intuition in trading comes from my living fortune inviting cat. She helps me make some discretionary decisions once I am in the trades that turn to maximize my gain or minimize my loss.

Is it just a superstition?  Or I am practicing to build my faith in something beyond my control? Of course, it is never mere blind faith. I am trained by great coaches and follow my plans.  Ms. Lothara has her routines set every day.  She has her special spot set like Carlos Castaneda described and knows when to be active, and when to relax.  Dogs are known to be loyal.  So are cats.   When I trust and believe in my cat’s grace and being, I realized how blessed I am to have Ms. Lothara as our family member.  My living Maneki-cat brings me so much fortune beyond words can explain.

Blogger’s Thoughts:

I do give credits to my friends’ posts on Facebook.   All these incredible videos of the animal stories.  I learned amazing things about animals.  How they feel.  They have golden hearts and compassion.

It is so enriching to have pets and animals live with us.
We learn not only to respect and have empathy for our pets.
Somehow because we humans have hands, we were able to manufacture machines, tools and weapons.
The humans were so good at inventing technology.  We, the humans tend to have a BIG EGO and think that the humans are above everything and are on top of the Animal Kingdom.
We have so much to learn from other beings, other animals on this Planet Earth.

When we get interested in mythology, it is a great way to tune into other creatures.

Not the way the pet owners lover their pets in condescending ways!

These pets and animals are our equals and I am beginning to think they are actually superior as they are tuned into all types of the Universal Energy.

Ms. Lothara one spring afternoon helped to find a team of people on Internet.  I am also blessed to be in a community of like-minded people.  We are achieving financial success.  Those who just started have faith.  Not blind but following a success model and tools.
