Napoleon Hill’s 6 Basic Fears and 7th Fear
My biggest secret of overcoming fears is to connect with the Universe’s or Nature’s blessing. So please enjoy the Sunset from my bedroom window.
However, we do need to do some basic work with our mindset as well.
In this blog I would like to share with you about 6 fears. And I would like to talk about the 7th fear. (This briefly discussed in the video)
Before I talk about them, please enjoy the sunset from my window while I talk. I like you to see the sunset more than my face.
I talked about 6 basic fears in the video. But if you are in a hurry, skip to the Seventh Fear below.
According to one definition, fear is a distressing emotion aroused by impending danger, evil, pain, etc., whether the threat is real or imagined.
Napoleon Hill spent over 25 years researching in collaboration with more than 500 distinguished men of wealth and success. In “Think and Grow Rich,” Hill describes Six Basic Fears and names them in order of their most common appearance:
This book is the class book on not only personal development but also spiritual development.
That is in my opinion.
1] The Fear of Poverty:
Hill observed that the fear of poverty was at the heart of most people’s worries. People are really afraid of being poor. Today this may still be the case. The Great Depression of the late 1920’s into 1930’s planted the dark seeds of poverty in the American experience.
2] The Fear of Criticism:
Other people criticize you. They repudiate you. You get put down. You feel you are minimized.
3] The Fear of Ill Health:
The fear of illness. You never know when you get ill. Even though you are aware of preventions, eat well and exercise, you never know when illness strikes. Cancer, Diabetes, heart attack, stroke… all these symptoms are becoming pandemic.
4] The Fear of Loss of Love of Someone:
YOU loved one can be ill. You may be going through a divorce. Or the relationship just ended.
Your daughters or sons went away to college or now live far away. You have an empty nest.
5] The Fear of Old Age:
The people now beginning to enter into that inevitable old age category are the Baby boomers. This is the proud, forever youth conscious, innovative golden boys and gals of the New Age, those who pushed the economy to grow.
6] The Fear of Death:
In my experience Asians are more at ease about old age and death. As a whole
Americans tend to worry about old age and death.
This was not covered in the video.
Fear is always seen as a bad indication and people try to deny, run away from or eradicate the feeling of fear. Fear is seen as the emotion to be denied and/or divided and conquered.
These 6 fears are inevitable events in life. Perhaps not ill health if you are blessed with good sets of DNA’s , your environment and way of life have been very healthy. All these 6 occurrences in our lives are inevitable and we don’t have control over them.
All these basic Fears Hill talks about we can only ‘divide and conquer’ by practicing “Let go and Let God.” This is when people can begin to relax their mind and heart.
7] The Fear of Discovering the Authentic-Self:
Not discovering who you are is the ultimate Failure
So you are afraid of failing and you give up…
The Fear of becoming who you really are… of following your dream; of living life fully; of living your potential; of discovering your authentic self…
Hill has given his 13 Success Principles to overcome this basic bottom-line fear of failing, going outside one’s comfort zone, going agisnt the status quo, fighting all the forces that told people why they cannot be.
“No, you cannot do this.”
“No, you should follow what everyone is doing.”
“That’s not the way it supposed to be.”
People have developed a habit of always worrying, being anxious and afraid.
They have been conditioned.
When you can learn and follow the Success principles one by one with a group of like-minded people, you will overcome this fear of meeting your authentic self face to face. The all the other 6 fears will begin to diminish.
Overcoming Fears:
When the people are practicing spirituality, a new perspective begins to emerge.
Joyce Meyer, a popular speaker and Bible teacher, said,
“Courage is fear that has said its prayer.”
In their pursuit of spirituality, the students strengthen and develop faculties to receive inner guidance. This may be achieved by meditating and praying to receive a word of wisdom to improve your own capacity to handle and cope with your problems.
Fear is not just a personal emotion:
It is a feeling that is granted to you so that you can set your life in order. When you accept your need to change, you can accept the help of your team mate or a mentor to change your circumstances and situation.
You will not have everybody to like and love you. There will be always someone who will criticize you. Even if you have been married or have been in relationship with someone, your spouse, partner or friend may drift away from you. At times losing that special someone’s love is inevitable. Illness you can be mindful and do your best to remain healthy. Aging can be gracious. Death is inevitable.
Change what you can:
While you are blessed with being alive; you can gain control of your health, finances and you can be who you want to become. Your life is like watching the beautiful sunset every day, at the end of the day. Have the courage to Change What you Can…
