It’s hard to know if it is wise to wait or not to wait
It’s hard to know if it is wise to wait or not to wait. It is very confusing.
Should you wait or not wait?
The culture I come from which is Japanese culture; It says, “Better wait and it is better to wait for 3 days before you give your answer.”
I’m a student of Napoleon Hill and “Think and Grow Rich” and Hill says, “Successful people without exception had the habit of deciding quickly and changing their mind very slowly, if at all.”
So there appears to be differences of opinions. What should you do?
There is a dilemma. I look at many people and for whom waiting means procrastination. Then procrastinate and sit on the fence. And never do anything. And a few weeks go by. A few months go by. And they are still complaining and doing the same thing.
Just dreaming and dreaming and wishing something must change.
And years later, they are following a path that some other people followed.
{Like a blind leading a blind.}
How do you make a quick decision?
- When Napoleon Hill talks about making a quick decision:
- He is not talking about action, it’s not based on
a random and sporadic decision.
- It is based on informative, informed decision.
- You have been masterminding.
- You have been working with specialized knowledge.
- You are very clear on your desire.
In the modern days we say you know your ‘Whys.’
- You know you have a vision.
- You set your goals.
- So then an opportunity comes to you.
- Then you can make a quick decision.
- That decision comes to you.
Saying a “ yes” is a decision. Saying a “no” is a decision.
- But making a decision of saying “No” is not based on being afraid to take steps;
- or trying to please other people; or falling back to your old belief system;
- where you are only following a conformity.
- Just because other people do it, you feel things should be done that way.
- Or it has been always done that way, you think you should just follow.
- There is a difference. When you have the wisdom to know the difference between clear, concise and informed decision
- aligned with your desire and vision…
- that is when you can make a quick decision.
And if not, you probably are wiser to wait to get to that clarity.
That is why it is so important to study personal development and success principles and even meditate and pray to get guidance beyond your own self. to leave your own finite thinking.
So there is a time to wait, and time not to wait.
When waiting is wise.
When waiting is not so wise.
Napoleon Hill taught me that Life is a Chessboard. Combining my Japanese heritage and his principles, finally I can clearly distinguish and know when I should wait and when I should take action.
5 Ways to know when to act:
You are always in action.
[1] Don’t try to tackle an entire project or a big chunk.
Take one step at a time. Decide what you can do today.
[2] Know the difference between a stalemate and a state of reflection and planning.
Research, gather information and brain storm. Consider your choices.
[3] Reassess what is most important. But focus on the present moment.
You may not have researched enough. And ask yourself, if you stay where you are now, will your situation be any different tomorrow, a week from now or a year from now.
[4] Think of impact or loss or harm done because of your action or non-action.
Think of your responsibility to your loved ones. Consider the difference between a healthy boundary between you and your loved ones; and your responsibility to them.
[5] Face your fear and set a target date to move beyond your stalemate.
If you lack action, then by default you’ve made a choice. By default you’ve acted negatively. So you aren’t really waiting as a wise choice.
When you are pushed down hard and have come to a crossroad in life, often something inside of you speaks up. An opportunity appears and you say to yourself, “this is what I have been waiting for.”
