Autosuggestion and the Subconscious Mind

The topic of this blog article is Autosuggestion.  This is one of the 13 Success Principles by Napoleon Hill’s “Think and Grow Rich.”  I am revisiting one of the chapters in this book.

Autosuggestion is self-suggestion.  It is a means of reaching into your subconscious mind.  The Conscious Mind can direct to the Subconscious Mind your desire, definite purpose, vision and goals… and impress them upon your Subconscious Mind.

If it were only upto your Conscious Mind, finite mind or human mind, it does not necessarily have the force or the fortitude to attract the things you want into your life.

The three types of the minds have been discussed in my earlier blog.  They are the Super Conscious, Conscious and Subconscious Mind.  The Super conscious is the infinite Power of the Universe.  The Subconscious Mind is the one that communicates with the Universal Intelligence.  That is a quite a bit metaphysical and many people do not understand it.

When someone is truly interested in transforming his/her daily behavior, thinking processes and ultimately their life and business, he must work on the Subconscious Mind. 

How Napoleon Hill’s Autosuggestion Exercise Differs from that of Law of Attraction

People can command their own lives to be the way they want by understanding and knowing what they want.   This is a bit like the Law of Attraction.  The difference between Hill’s Autosuggestion and the Law of attraction as most people were taught is that YOU MUST… MUST HAVE A PLAN… AN ORGANIZED PLAN.

Lots of motivational speakers say:

You don’t have to know HOW to get what you want.  Set a goal and get started.
  • You must write down a statement what you want in the present tense.
  • Set a target date.
  • Memorize your written statement.
  • Recite it daily.
  • Visualize how you have all the things you want.

The repetition is the mother of all learning.

But who is learning?

Your Subconscious Mind is learning.

You are getting into a habit of getting into feeling your burning desire.  It turns into an all consuming desire.
If you don’t know how, how would you know what to do?
Begin at once whatever seems to be in alignment with your desire, purpose and vision.

The ORGANIZED PLAN doesn’t have to be your own creation.

  • It could be an opportunity that comes into your life. 
  • A friend or colleague may one day tell you about something that you never heard about before.
  • You may come across on the Internet something that seems very interesting.
  • An email you receive may invite you to a live-webcast one day.

By now (doing autosuggestion daily) you have so much faith you are so open and willing

  •  you can distinguish if this is right for you or NOT right for you
  • your mind is not conditioned any more
  • your are not just rejecting or be skeptical as usual
  • you KNOW if it’s the right time or the right choice for you. 

Following through the organized plan requires, consistent, persistent and continuous action daily.  This is the way to get to your success.  Autosuggestion is probably the most powerful tool you can learn. 

In “Think and Grow Rich,”  Napoleon Hill gives 3 steps for autosuggestion.

As in his Self-confidence Formula, the actual steps of doing autosuggestion require 6 Steps as follows:

1] Set up a definite Purpose, your vision and goals.  Promise to take daily action in attainment of your purpose, vision and goal and cultivate your belief and faith in the exercise of autosuggestion.

Include the target date by which you will attain your goal.
If you are speaking of financial goal, indicate the exact amount of money you intend to generate.
Include the exact activity or service you will render to achieve your goal. 
(This can be re-evaluated and edited on a regular basis.)

2] Commit yourself a total of 30 minutes daily to concentrate your thoughts on the object of your desire and this autosuggestion exercise.   Commit  yourself to become the person you intend to become, worthy of achieving your dreams.

3] You will devote 10-20 minutes daily to develop self-confidence by going over a list of strong character assets that you possess or intend to cultivate.

4] You have clearly written down statement of a description of your definite chief aim (Purpose and vision and goals) and revise as needed when you gain new vision or  meet opportunities.

5] You ascertain that your vision and goals are in alignment with and harmony with other’s
well being and happiness.  You will never engage in any activity that will violate others’ rights.  You will eliminate negative and unproductive emotions such as hatred, envy, jealousy, self-centered obsession, selfishness and cynicism.

6] You will memorize your written statement; recite it daily and visualize yourself accepting and getting all that you wanted, with full faith that it will influence your thoughts, actions and being.

  • This speaking out laud must be done in the present tense. 
  • It must be mixed with authentic emotions. 
  • Imagine how you sense in your body. 
  • Imagine where you are when you receive this news. 
  • Commit yourself doing this 6 step exercise daily.
  • Your Daily Action Plan is the SERVICE  or action you render to achieve your goal and this is not the same as your 6 Step Autosuggestion Exercise.

For example if you want to be physically fit, your action plan maybe is to follow a certain diet regimen; go to a gym several times a week, etc.  If you are a writer you must research and write a certain number of pages and organize how to publish.

You must do your autosuggestion exercise daily and you must be engaged in an organized plan daily.  Without this organized action plan daily, your wants and needs will not manifest as reality.  You must put emotions of achievement and enthusiasm into your autosuggestion exercise as if you already accomplish and are in possession of what you desire in life.

Grow rich means much more than about making money.  However, 95 % of our population in the developed nations is in need of financial improvements.  My focus here is how to improve your financial life.  Please contact me if it is other areas of your life you need to improve more than in your finances.
