How to Build A Burning Desire: Revisit “Think And Grow Rich”
I’d like to talk to you about and revisit with you Napoleon Hill’s “Think and Grow Rich.” Actually every day I read a passage, a paragraph or even a chapter from the book, “Think and Grow Rich.”
I learned to do this from Mr. Bob Proctor who is the main teacher of “Think and Grow Rich” (in my opinion). And of course he is a great life-philosopher. At age 80, he is still going on strong. I think I probably have known and studied with Bob Proctor for about 15 years. But from him, I’ve really learned to read a section of a book at a time and contemplate on it.
Every time I want to review my life; what I’ve done, how things have been going; what worked; what didn’t work; what’s missing what I want to improve; I always go back to Napoleon Hill’s “Think and Grow Rich” in full force.

The Story of Edwin Burns:
Edwin Burns wanted to be a partner of Thomas Edison. He managed to go from the mid-West to Orange, NJ. His was not just a little wish or he wasn’t just dreaming. But he really had a burning desire to be Thomas Edison’s partner.

The first chapter of the book is “Desire.” It’s about a burning desire. In personal development arena, the word like ‘hope’ or ‘wish’ ; phrase like “I hope to do something” or “I wish to do something” has almost become a dirty word or meaningless expression. It seen that you are thinking of “something that cannot be done” and you don’t have a strong will power.

I think that it is a process of dreaming, hoping and wishing that leads to a desire. All that you really want begins with a little dream. Then you begin to see a dim ray of hope. Then you begin to think and have lots of free associations of your dream and you begin to wish. This wish becomes stronger, stronger belief that you think “I can do this,” and you think of the possibilities of this happening more and more. And finally this becomes a burning desire.

What has to follow after discovering this burning desire is planning. Careful planning. That’s when this desire you have becomes a definite burning desire and translate into a definite goal or goals. Then you must execute your goals little by little. Action is required. That’s how a process of success begins. Early Nightingale said, “Success is a progressive realization of a worthy goal.” That’s how success begins.
{My apology, I was watching the traffic light as my eyes rolled up and down.}

You need to burn all bridges. To get there. You also must become willing to cross new bridges, the ones you aren’t familiar with. And to create new bridges.

6 Step formula to create a burning desire:
Just like anything else, you have to build it little by little.
[1] Have definite amount money you want to create.
Whether it is in $, ¥ or £, whatever your currency is, you must have a specific amount.
[2] What are you willing to do or give up in order to acquire this amount of money?
[3] Have a target date. Sometimes you cannot meet that target date you set. You will be able to change or adjust this date.
[4] Plan. Create an action plan to make your goal of achieving this amount of money a possibility.
[5] Put items from [1] to [4] in writing. You can use a goal card, a page of any size or an index card.
[6] Read aloud your written statement every day twice, when you right after wake up in the morning and before going to bed. Napoleon Hill emphasizes that you should see, sense, feel and believe as if you are ‘ALREADY IN POSESSION OF’ what you desire.
Suggested Sample:
Carry this card with you. Recite this as often as possible. Set a 30 day, 60 day or 90 day goal.
Begin to read this card daily as suggested. Do not skip a day.
By using this daily repetition, you impress your desire and plans on your subconscious.
By following this 6 step formula, it is possible to put yourself on a road to success.
